Lors des deux passages de l'autre côté de l'atlantique pendant ma vie d'insouciance étudiante, je me suis toujours retrouvé dans les forêts fraiches et sympathiques de la Virginie. Mon Bac ES dans la poche, ma majorité tout juste en vue, je passais 3 semaines dans cette jolie ville de Winchester en immersion familliale (D'ailleurs merci pour les M&M's! 10 years later...). La seule chose dont je me souviens vraiment , c'est le vert. Le printemps, les fleurs, les odeurs. Même quand je suis retourné du côté de Charlottesville 4 ans plus tard alors que la neige et le froid restaient new yorkais, le climat avait complètement changé en quelques heures de AmTrak, un véritable printemps d'hiver. Je me souviens de ça et de l'histoire de la guerre civile. En fait, La Virginie c'est le sud sans être le sud pour de vrai. On est clairement à la campagne, loin des buildings et de la surpopulation mais on reste proche des grands ensembles de l'est américain. Il n'est pas étonnant de voir qu'une bonne partie des artistes les plus novateurs et créatifs sortent de cet univers. Voilà pour l'intro. MTV. My block. Virginia. Timbo. Neptunes. Et les autres.
